Year Qualified: 2024

My journey into the world of wine began on weekends and holidays, assisting my parents with their wine business that served the informal market. It was during a stint in the laboratory at Simonsig, where I delved into wine analysis, that I crossed paths with Debbie Thompson. Her influence was pivotal in my decision to pursue winemaking as a career.

In 2002, I enrolled at Stellenbosch University and completed my B.Sc. in Viticulture and Oenology in 2005. My hands-on experience began with a harvest practical at Overhex Private Cellar, leading to an offer for the position of Assistant Winemaker upon graduation. I further honed my skills with international harvests at McManis Family Vineyards in California in 2006 and at Cave Coopérative Les Costières in France in 2008.

I was promoted to Cellar Master in 2007, but with the arrival of my first child during the 2009 harvest, I transitioned to a role in Production and Sales to better balance work and family life. This shift opened doors to international travel and the opportunity to build valuable customer relationships.

After 11 years, I sought a new challenge and joined Coastal Wine Exports in 2017 as Production Manager and Winemaker. I am incredibly proud to be part of this dynamic team, contributing to our shared success.

In 2018, I embarked on the Cape Wine Master journey. It has been an emotional rollercoaster, but the experience has been deeply rewarding. The support and camaraderie of my peers in the program have made this journey all the more meaningful.
