Clive has a background in public relations and brand management at Stellenbosch Farmers Winery. He completed his studies at the Cape Wine Academy between 1990 and 1994, and completed the exams of the Cape Wine & Spirit Education Trust (CWSET), to be admitted as a Cape Wine Master, in 1995.
Clive’s research report topic was “Oregon Pinot Noir – can South Africa compare?”
He completed a Certificate in Wine Judging with the CWSET (in 1992) and holds Diplomas in Cellar Technology and Viticulture from Elsenburg College, Stellenbosch.
Clive was the winemaker at Villiers Wines and manager of Methode Cap Classique production from 1986 – 1989. He was manager of the CWA in Johannesburg (1990 – 1993), and then Public Relations Manager for Nederburg (1993 – 1998).
Subsequently Clive has been a brand manager for Stellenbosch Farmers’ Winery Ltd (1998 – 2003) and the manager of the CWA (Cape) from 2003 – 2005. Between 1987 and 1991, Clive made wine in Washington State, Oregon and California. He also marketed wines at Groezingers Wine Merchant, California.
In 1991 he visited all the Pinot Noir producers in Oregon, and between 1992/93 her researched Pinot Noir production worldwide. He is currently the owner of Topaz Wines.
