Margie took up wine tasting in 1994, and what started out as a hobby, soon became a passion. In 1995, she started working in the wine industry and did the sales and marketing for various farms in Gauteng until 2003.

She qualified as a Cape Wine Master in 2004 and her dissertation was on “Supermarkets and the retailing of wine”.

Margie currently lives in Greenside, Johannesburg with her husband Paul and is full-time mom to her two children Emma and Ryan. She works part-time for the Cape Wine Academy in developing course material for the Diploma course and various other projects.

In her free time, she assists in setting up and stocking cellars. She belongs to various tasting groups and her hobbies include birding, hiking, mosaic and organic gardening.

Margie was compelled to make significant lifestyle modifications in 2024 due to a COVID-19 complication. Among these adjustments was a suspension of alcohol consumption. Therefore, Margie reached the resolution to terminate her membership with the ICWM.
