Winemaker Stephan du Toit is a graduate of the Elsenburg Agricultural College, South Africa’s foremost academic institution in viticulture and oenology. Before joining Dieu Donné in 1996, he specialised in making red wines at the famous Nederburg Wine Estate.

Stephan has spent several harvests working at Chateau Margaux (Bordeaux), Weinsburg Wine School (Germany) and in the wine area of Vienna in Austria. He has also travelled European wine regions extensively, has worked at Simi Winery in Sonoma (California) and visited the wine regions of Chile, Australia and New Zealand.

He is one of the few South African wine-makers with the distinction of being a Cape Wine Master, completed in 1998. His seminar topic was “Red Wine Making Techniques in New World Wine Countries”.

When not in the cellar or checking out the inspiring sunsets from the new extensions, this action man can be found paragliding, kite- or windsurfing. When there is not a breeze to shoot, he is off white-water kayaking or diving.
