ICWM hosts the IWSC Judges

Cape Wine Masters, IWSC 2024

On Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, the ICWM had the pleasure of welcoming a group of esteemed international judges from the prestigious International Wine & Spirits Competition 2024 (IWSC) to the Cape Wine Academy in Stellenbosch. The South African Wine Orientation Tasting was expertly led by four Cape Wine Masters. Their goal was to give the judges a comprehensive understanding of the South African wine scene, offering them a glimpse into the diverse range of wines and styles they might come across during the upcoming judging sessions.

Mark Philp CWM, the chairperson of ICWM, provided them with an introduction to the Cape Wine Masters programme and the wine scene in South Africa.

Next, they had the pleasure of experiencing a delightful tasting of Cap Classique sparkling wines, expertly presented by Heidi Duminy CWM, the principal of the Cape Wine Academy.

Lizette Tolken CWM, our representative from the Educational Committee, then shared her insights on the wide range of South African Chenin Blancs.

And no South African wine tasting experience would be complete without a taste of Pinotage Anton Swarts CWM was available to provide a detailed explanation of our beloved national treasure!

The panel of judges included John Hoskins MW (chairperson), along with Ivan Dixon, Rebecca Palmer, Matthew Horsley, Vincenzo Arnese, Libby Brodie, and Xenia Ruscombe-King MW.

The evening concluded with a delectable meal, and the judges unanimously agreed that South African wine is thriving. They expressed great gratitude for our hospitality and the unforgettable evening enjoyed by everyone.
